Thanks, HOBY!
On May 17, 2008, The Hugh O'Brian Youth Project swarmed the Kanawha Players building like a very productive and organized army of clean-up ants! With 140 youth ambassadors and 20 adult and alumni leaders they took on the project of helping KP get the building cleaned and spruced up for audiences on May 30th. Teams of 10-12 ambassadors (each sophomore student represents their school and community as a leader) tackled much-needed tasks. From grounds work to vacuuming; from mopping and painting to cleaning bathrooms, the swarm moved through the space changing the face of the KP building.
Each year the HOBY Youth Leadership Seminar holds a conference in Charleston at the University of Charleston. Young people are given opportunities to learn about leadership and to channel their incredible skills into real projects. Each ambassador commits to 100 hours of service over the next year. Each year they search for a project that allows all the ambassadors to work together on a community service project that has an impact in the community.
