Kanawha Players Awards
Community theater does not happen by just the efforts of actors and directors. Community theater requires the efforts of set builders, stage crew, prop persons, light and sound technicians, costumers, hair stylists and make-up artists, ticket sellers, program designers, office workers, newsletter editors, poster designers, and on and on. Then there are the essential jobs not so easily categorized such as "visionary" and "leader."
While Kanawha Players celebrates the contributions of all its volunteers, these awards are given annually for outstanding efforts.
TERRY MARCHAL "SOMEBODY" AWARD
The Terry Marchal "Somebody" Award is given to a person who is
always willing to take the initiative and get it done whenever they
hear, "Well, somebody ought to do that." The award is named for the
late Terry Marchal, a tireless, perennial "somebody" for Kanawha
Players and a beloved Charleston personality. Recent "Somebody"

ART AND SOUL AWARD
The Art and Soul Award is given to a person who uses their own
creativity and their own art selflessly to enrich Kanawha Players.
The Art and Soul award itself is an stained glass work of art of
original design created by Martina Huson of Charleston, WV.

"I WAS THERE" AWARDS
The "I Was There" Awards come from the unique experiences of
creating theatre. They are the fodder for the theatre story mill,
and they are the stories we tell over and over, because they keep us
connected to all the vibrant people in our theatre family. Some are
serious. Some require the tongue to be firmly planted in cheek. All
are fun. Here are the awards for 2008:
- • New Daddy Award to Ryan Hardiman for his help in the production of a new crop of performers--The Crucible • No free Lunch Award To Joe Romagnoli for making the most number of sandwiches and never getting to eat one--The Drawer Boy • Clean Plate Award to Rick Brown for never finishing one of Angus’ sandwiches--The Drawer Boy • Spotless Driveway Award to Jeff Bukovinsky for the shiniest gravel know to the greater Charleston area--The Drawer Boy • Eye of the Beholder Award to Katonya Hart for bravery in the face of someone touching her eyes--The Crucible • Sleeping on the Job Award to Lily Odekirk for the longest time spent on stage without lines or blocking--The Crucible • Carpe Diem Award to Joe Gibson for the best Latin this season--The Crucible • Speechless Award to Kate Woestman for the ability to make us cry without the ability to speak--The Crucible • Hydro Therapy Award to Terry Terpening for falling to the floor while her clothes nearly fell off--Harvey • Invisible Friend Award to Rick Fleenor for having deal with Harvey (Because we know what diva that rabbit can be)--Harvey • No Midi Disc Here Award to Jeff Haught for outstanding piano work--Best Christmas Pageant Ever and Tuesdays with Morrie • Laugh and Cry Award to Kevin Pauley for the ability to scare you to death on stage and make you laugh so hard your sides hurt off stage--The Crucible • The Show Must Go On Award to Greg Morris for hiding a script in a newspaper and going on stage to replace an ill actor (in the role of the taxi driver) at the last minute in Harvey • Best Dressed Light Tech Award to Angie Baker for her opening weekend ensembles-–Tuesdays With Morrie • She’s a Devil in Disguise Award to Mandy Petry for her dual personality in The Crucible • Best First Starring Role to Alexandra Ayoob for her professionalism and fine performance-–The Best Christmas Pageant Ever • Broadway Baby Show Stealer Award to Claire Kosky for the AWHHHH! factor in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever • The Biggest Transformation Award to Alyssa Quencer for morphing from Imogene to Mary in front of our eyes-–The Best Christmas Pageant Ever • Dance Fever Award to Jim Lewis for the best foxtrot in a hot theatre-–Tuesdays With Morrie • I Can Do That Award to Cody Burdette for playing a preachers kid-–The Best Christmas Pageant Ever • Beauty and the Beast Award to Penny Fioravante for her transformation to street hag in The Crucible • The Harvey Award to Danielle Conard for the best performance by a character never appearing onstage-–Tuesdays With Morrie • Walking through Fire Award to the Cast of Harvey for surviving the stifling heat at rehearsals • Ice Man Cometh Award to the Cast of Best Christmas Pageant Ever for surviving arctic temps at rehearsal • Home and Garden Award to Bill Spann for keeping the KP grounds beautiful
